> Summary: IProviderRetryClassifier: Decides whether a model-provider failure is retryable on the next fallback link.

<div class="api-provenance">Namespace Tracon · Assembly <code>Tracon.Abstractions.dll</code></div>

Decides whether a model-provider failure is retryable on the next fallback link.

```csharp
public interface IProviderRetryClassifier
```

## Remarks

Called by `FallbackChatClient`, once per failed attempt, before it
falls back to Tracon's own closed-set rules. A cancellation
([OperationCanceledException](https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/system.operationcanceledexception), anywhere in the exception
graph) never reaches this classifier — that check runs before the seam
and cannot be overridden.

Tracon's taxonomy is its own opinion; a consumer may want to trust an
additional SDK-specific exception. Registered with `TryAddSingleton`,
so the consumer's registration wins.

## Methods

### <a id="Tracon_IProviderRetryClassifier_Classify_System_Exception_"></a> Classify\(Exception\)

Classifies the failure. Return [ProviderRetryDecision.Unknown](/api/tracon.providerretrydecision/)
to defer to Tracon's built-in rules.

```csharp
ProviderRetryDecision Classify(Exception exception)
```

#### Parameters

`exception` [Exception](https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/system.exception)

The exception a model call threw.

#### Returns

 [ProviderRetryDecision](/api/tracon.providerretrydecision/)

The retry decision.
